Environmental Engineer

Expertise

Ms. Acevedo joined Hydro Geo Chem, Inc., in 2007 as a Staff Professional and obtained her Professional Engineering licensure while at HGC. She has over eight years of experience working on environmental investigations and remedial actions. This includes coordinating and preparing engineering drawings for monitoring and remedial wells, soil-vapor extraction (SVE) systems, and bioremediation systems. Has conducted oversight during the construction of remedial systems. Experience includes soil and soil-gas sampling, assisting with groundwater sampling, and performing maintenance of SVE and groundwater pump and treat remedial systems. Has over 16 years of experience in engineering design utilizing AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Representative Experience

• Prepared monitoring well plans for a water treatment system installed at a WQARF Site in Phoenix, Arizona. The plans were related to additional wells installed to track the lateral extent of the contamination plume. Performed operation and maintenance of the SVE system and the water treatment system (balancing system flow rates, recording and measurement of system parameters for both systems, monthly vapor-phase carbon sampling from the SVE system and monthly liquid phase carbon sampling from the wastewater treatment system, general site housekeeping). Prepared hydrographs for quarterly groundwater sampling events, based on field data and laboratory analysis of samples collected, as well as assistance with report preparation. Preparation of semi-annual reports for the wastewater treatment system and annual ADWR filing as well as preparation of quarterly performance test reports for the SVE system. Updates to project Health & Safety Plan (HASP) as the project scope is modified.

• Preparation of an Early Response Action design plan for an air sparge/soil vapor extraction system (AS/SVE) and groundwater extraction/treatment system installed at a WQARF Site in Gilbert, Arizona. The construction plans included process and instrumentation diagrams for the AS/SVE system and the groundwater extraction/treatment system, piping/trenching plans and sections, equipment layouts and wellhead details. Performed construction oversight during installation of the systems, and recorded pertinent data and maintained photographic log of construction. Also prepared construction plans for completion of the water treatment system with discharges to the SRP irrigation system and the Town of Gilbert sewer system. Performed operation and maintenance of the AS/SVE system and the groundwater extraction/treatment system (balancing system flow rates, recording and measurement of system parameters for both systems, bi-weekly vapor-phase carbon sampling from AS/SVE system and monthly liquid phase carbon sampling from the groundwater system, general site housekeeping). Also involved in preparation of hydrographs for quarterly groundwater sampling events. Preparation of quarterly O&M reports for both systems, quarterly performance testing reports for the SVE system, discharge monitoring reporting for the groundwater treatment system and annual ADWR filing. Updates to project Health & Safety Plan (HASP) as the project scope is modified.

• Performed field soil sampling utilizing passive soil gas samplers; recorded pertinent data; and maintained photographic log, field deployment log, and chain of custody for the samples at a the 7th Street and Missouri Avenue site in Phoenix, Arizona. Field sampling was a component of a preliminary investigation to determine the lateral extent of the contamination plume and the constituents of the plume. Prepared groundwater elevation and sample location maps related to the investigation and monitor well plans for eight new wells installed at the site. Assisted with groundwater sampling and data evaluation including preparation of figures and hydrographs for monitor well installation and quarterly groundwater sampling events. Prepared draft report summarizing investigation. Preparation of semi-annual groundwater monitoring reports for groundwater sampling events conducted for monitoring wells located in the project scope. Updates to project Health & Safety Plan (HASP) as the project scope is modified.

Preparation of plan set related to the landfill expansion including existing site condition, phasing plan, subgrade and final cover topography, surface water management details, leachate collection system details, and other details related to the landfill base liner, final cover, slope drain and outlet.  Utilize volume tool of AutoCAD to obtain projected landfill volumes and area estimates.  In addition, produced sampling location maps for the active cells of the landfill as a result of soil gas sampling conducted at the site.

Production of a preliminary plan set related to the construction of a new landfill including existing site condition, site layout/phasing plan, drainage system design and sub-catchment delineation for active landfill cells, final cover system and typical profile, and other details related to the landfill system such as the landfill perimeter and base liner.

Preparation of an Early Response Action design plan set related to the Air Sparge/Soil Vapor Extraction system installed at a site in Arizona.  The construction plan set included process and instrumentation diagrams for an Air Sparge/Soil Vapor Extraction system and groundwater extraction/treatment system, piping/trenching plans and sections, equipment layout and wellhead details.  Performed construction oversight during installation of the systems, recording of pertinent data and maintained photographic log of construction.  Subsequent plan production for reclaimed water discharge to a western canal.

Prepared design plan set related to an Air Sparge/Injection and Soil Vapor Extraction system install at a site encompassing the an International Airport.  The design included vault and piping plans, sections and details, remediation compound and equipment plans, PID’s and PFD’s for the systems and concrete pad details.  Performance of construction oversight during installation of the systems, recording of pertinent data and maintain photographic log of construction.

Preparation of a design plan set related to an Air Sparge/Soil Vapor Extraction and Process Gas Injection system for an International Airport.  The set included process well design, vault and piping plans, sections and details, compound and equipment plans, PID’s and PFD’s for the system and concrete pad details.

Performance of field soil sampling utilizing passive soil gas samplers, recording of pertinent data, maintain photographic log, field deployment log and chain of custody for the samples.  The field sampling was a component of a preliminary investigation to determine the lateral extent of a contamination plume and the constituents of the plume. Subsequent preparation of groundwater elevation and sample location maps related to the investigation.
